Releasing 'The Appropriate Level of Outrage' on January 31, 2018 Via Bird Attack Records
A Vulture Wake is a new band featuring Chad Price (ALL/Drag The River), Joe Raposo (RKL/Lagwagon), Sean Sellers (Good Riddance/Real McKenzies) and Brandon D. Landelius (The Mag Seven).
AVW recorded their first 10 songfull-length album in January 2017 at the infamous Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado. The album, 'The Appropriate Level of Outrage,' will be released January 31st via Bird Attack Records (88 Fingers Louie, Guttermouth, Belvedere, Such Gold, Authority Zero), with the EP to follow in Spring 2018. Pre-orders will launch in early January.
J.B: Okay so let’s start from the beginning the meaning behind it all because a “Wake” is a group of Vultures so what’s the metaphorical meaning in that one?
CHAD: We are hungry and there’s plenty of rotten shit to feast on. A wake is specifically vultures feeding.
J.B: You guys have all came from finishing amazing previous albums with your other band mates to come together on this project where did the conception start from?
CHAD: Brandon had a bunch of music recorded and wanted to put something together. He and Sean were previously in a band together and were still jamming with each other. I was asked if I wanted to give it a listen and write some lyrics and melodies. I liked what I heard so I went for it. Once we realized this could turn into something we asked Joe to rock with us.
J.B: This lineup you all have roots in Punk Rock but have dabbled in various other sounds how would you describe this direction as more organic and tight progression?
CHAD: I was excited about this band for a couple reasons. All guys I really like and respect musically but have never played with. And a type of music I’ve never done before. A slightly metal version of melodic hardcore with a progressiveness that keeps things very interesting. Honest, fast and powerful.
J.B: I also noticed that you started some touring with of course Good Riddance which makes sense so is there a possibility of any future tour scenarios of perhaps the perfect bill of “All” “Good Riddance” and Lagwagon?
CHAD: Ha! I seriously doubt it but who knows.
J.B: You guys have had many opportunities to shop around the labels but found a home over Bird Attack Records which is really huge right now, what’s it like to be part of that family over there?
CHAD: I didn’t know anything about the label beforehand. I haven’t met anyone there yet but they seem very excited and ready to work for us and with us. They have a lot of cool bands and we just wanted someone that could put us in front of audiences that would understand and appreciate what we have to offer.
J.B: The title of this release is “The Appropriate level of outrage” is that a reflection of the current state of political distress in America?
CHAD: Of course. This administration is so fucked and hell bent on destroying any headway that's been made. If you’re not pissed then you’re not paying attention.
J.B: Coming back to the Band name you could almost say that would be a fair representation of the current state of affairs in the Senate?
CHAD: Oh yeah. Rich motherfuckers feeding on the poor.
J.B: You guys just came out of the studio and recorded at of course the Blasting Room, did you guys already had tracks written that where ready to hammer out in the studio environment?
CHAD: Yeah we were pretty much ready when we got there. Songs were written through the internet since none of us live anywhere close to each other. We recorded a demo the day after our first practice and had a few months to check out the arrangements and other shit before we got to Colorado.
J.B: There’s also been mention of after this release slated for January 30th in the spring of 2018 perhaps an e.p release?
CHAD: True. We recorded a bunch of songs but wanted to keep the album a tight 30 minutes or so.
J.B: We always end with a famous book or quote that inspired your life anything come to mind?
CHAD: Treat others how you would like to be treated.
